Three-time ARIA-nominated musician (and recent recipient of the Levi's Music Prize), G Flip will tour regional Australia throughout May, before performing at Splendour In The Grass.
Two days before International Women’s Day, this morning G Flip performed a fantastic cover of Patti LaBelle's 'Lady Marmalade' on triple j's Like A Version alongside Jess B, Thandi Phoenix, Alex The Astronaut, Isabella Manfredi (The Preatures), Jess Kent, Rosie Fitzgerald (I Know Leopard), Clio Renner, Kate Richards, Bernice Tesara and Carla Dobbie.The cover included fantastic vocals and drum work from G Flip and a brilliant horn section, and was followed by the officially unreleased track 'Hyperfine'.
“I’ve been thinking about doing Like A Version for the majority of my life,” G Flip says. “I’ve always been a Triple J listener and it was a long-term dream to play my own Like A Version.
“I’ve been making a shortlist of songs for years including the idea of playing 'Lady Marmalade' with a large band.
“So when triple j asked me to play Like A Version two days before International Women’s Day, it felt right to pick 'Lady Marmalade' and get some of my most boss women friends to join me.
“International Women’s Day is a day to bring together and celebrate women. My cover is a culmination of exactly that. It felt right to gather some of my very talented female buddies and smash out this song together.”
With four previously sold-out headline tours of Australia as well as 86 million streams globally, G Flip will perform headline shows in Torquay, Castlemaine, Newcastle and Cairns.
The tour also includes stops in Darwin and Alice Springs for One Tropical Day as well as Sunshine Coast for Big Pineapple Music Festival, where she’ll play alongside Hilltop Hoods.
