Some 21 years after its release, Melbourne act Frente will celebrate their iconic album, ‘Marvin The Album’, with an Australian tour.
“I'm looking forward to getting all the old songs up,” says lead vocalist Angie Hart. “Some of them I don't even remember anymore, so that's going to be really fun to hear them in a full band setting again.”
It may be more than 15 years since the alternative and folk pop stars headlined a tour, but this doesn't phase Hart or fellow member Simon Austin. “It's pretty amazing when you hear that people have met their partners, gotten married and had children to the soundtrack of my music,” Angie says.
Those attending the anniversary tour can prepare for an interactive show, with Hart divulging: “It's our thing to have a pretty intimate rapport with the audience, so hopefully it'll be quite a spontaneous evening. Even though we're doing it with a full band there should be some interaction with the audience, a bit of heckling and some requests, I hope … I'm excited and nervous!
“We're going to attempt to play as much as possible from our back catalogue,” Angie continues. “We keep talking about doing another album, which just hasn't felt right. But that would be wonderful if we could do that … and definitely some more touring … you can't hurry the muse!”
Since forming 25 years ago, Frente have created countless chart topping hits together (including ‘Accidently Kelly Street’) and sold 1.5 million copies of 'Marvin The Album'. But Angie admits her and Simon have “changed and grown, but the biggest thing for us is that it's remained about the music, because all the rest of the stuff is long gone”.
Frente have come a long way since their first performance, which was a memorable experience for Angie, who was under-age at the time. “I had to wait outside the venue before... I came in just to play the set and we didn't have enough songs so we had to play the set twice. Yeah, it was very memorable!”
