Fremantle Arts Centre Expands It's Sunday Music Series Of Free Concerts

A pillar of Fremantle's live music heritage, Fremantle Arts Centre's Sunday Music programme has been providing a diverse offering spanning all genres for 40-plus years.

Dedicated to hosting a platform for emerging local talent while showcasing national and international artists, each Sunday between 2-4pm until April, Sunday Music offers music lovers a destination where they can encounter ethereal folk to vibrant hip hop and everything in between.

As the first season wraps up this Sunday with FAC Yeah! Community Choir and Natalie Gillespie, the second season is highlighted by the mesmerising tribal pop of Réunion Island artist Aurus ('The Well', 'Awol') and Icelandic folk pop sensation JFDR ('White Sun', 'Shimmer').

"I'm thrilled to bring the music to Australia this summer," declares Aurus. "From Gippsland to Sydney, through Woodford and Fremantle, I can't wait to share these moments with you."

Adds JFDR: "Next month we traverse the earth to Josh's homeland and have been welcomed to some magnificent stages, we will bring the woollen sun hat and sleepy dog energy."

Another international arrival will be The Witchy Djypsies, a high energy, eclectic international six-piece band fusing soulful Latin beats, cheeky gypsy jazz and brass-infused ska rhythms, who celebrate the diversity of their musical influences while tearing down genre borders.

Local hip hop royalty, Downsyde ('Fortune & Fame', 'Only Got Now') will play late January, while emerging rap force MALI JO$E ('Mistakes', 'Interventions') will take to the garden stage early February joined by Psychedelic Porn Crumpets' Luke Parish's People Taking Pictures, a psychedelic side-project blending rock, hip hop, jazz and electronica.

Other local highlights of the programme include indie charmers Rocks & Rhubarbs, jazz artist Georgie Aue, trad-folk group Double Dole String Band, country-folk sibling duo Charm Of Finches (direct from Melbourne), blues rockers The Kill Devil Hills and the dreamy electronica of Felicity Groom.

"As we celebrate a remarkable first half of Sunday Music, highlighted by performances like Dave McCormack last weekend, we're delighted to announce another incredible line-up for Sunday Music Part 2," City of Fremantle's Director of Creative Arts, Pete Stone says.

"Featuring artists from across the globe, it's a privilege for the City of Fremantle to bring such outstanding musical experiences to the community, free of charge every Sunday, made possible through the generous support of Fremantle Community Bank."

With food trucks and a bar, Sunday Music is staged in the lush surrounds of Fremantle Arts Centre's front garden, with patrons encouraged to bring picnic blankets to fully immerse themselves in the moment.

Fremantle Arts Centre's Sunday Music summer concert series is on every Sunday from 2-4pm until early April.
