Fresh off a whirlwind run across the US, UK and Europe, Manchester-based artist Freak Slug is bringing her dreamy blend of indie rock-pop down under for the first time.
The moniker of Xenya Genovese, Freak Slug blend off-kilter grunge, bratty alt-pop and lo-fi punk, with such hits as 'Radio', 'Care' and 'Friday'. Xenya and her band mates will play gigs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney this October. Each performance promises a surreal, emotionally-charged trip through Freak Slug's bizarre and brilliant musical mind that includes tracks from her 2024 debut album 'I Blow Out Candles' – a must-see for fans of cult indie, femme punk, and everything in between.
Xenya's love of music was born from her own mother's musical passion, as she recently told Notion. "I first fell in love with music second-hand, seeing my mother experience her love for music.
"Usually, someone like Madonna would be playing and we'd dance around the house – I'd manically plait her hair so she looked like Medusa. We called it our crazy cat hour."
Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 11 July.
