A Fooking Great Time at a Fooking Huge Arena Show.

"This is the biggest fucking show of the whole tour,” Dave Grohl enthused. "This is gonna be a long fuckin’ night!" And so it was. Two hours and forty-five minutes of hard hitting stadium type Fooy-rock, minus the 20 minutes of cover songs in the middle, to nearly sixty thousand screaming fans—with no encores.

Grohl informed everyone, “We don’t do encores. We don’t play for one and a half hours. We don’t play for two and a half hours. We play till we can’t play anymore... We’ve been a band a long fucking time, and we’ve got a lot of fucking songs!”

It was touching sentiment for adoring fans, but the statement is more of a marketing gimmick than truth. Where there be a venue surrounded by residential properties on abides by the law and cuts the show when told—even if you are one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Foo Fighters 150228 3They opened with the hard hitting “Something From Nothing” and “The Pretender”, which shook the crowd into an immediate frenzy. ‘Monkey Wrench’ merged into something like a back alley jazz-session lasting about 12 minutes while the hot and humid crowd found their feet again.

Dave then ran down the extremely long catwalk to perform a slightly sloppy, solo acoustic set of "Skin And Bones", “Wheels" and "Times Like These". Suddenly, the band magically appeared behind him on a rotating stage where they stayed and belted out a few classic covers: "Detroit Rock City" (KISS), "Stay With Me" (The Faces) and "Let There Be Rock" (AC/DC).

Before heading back to the main stage, Dave surprisingly invited a young man, with his shy girlfriend in tow, on stage for a marriage proposal—she had no idea but soon figured it out when he dropped to his knee, ring in hand. When the bride-to-be accepted, Dave cheerfully growled, “Congratulations. Get the fuck off my stage!”.

Foo-Fighters-150228-2Once the pub covers were complete it was back to the Foo Fighters stream of hits with, “All My Life”, “These Days”, “Best Of You”, “Outside” and “Generator”.

Finally, with parting adieu, Dave announced, "We don't ever really say goodbye, we just say this…” while gracefully merging into the lullaby love song that becomes more endearing with every listen, “Everlong”.
