"Share housing with your mates can be lots of fun. But let’s face it, living in close quarters with their quirks and bad habits can often make you wish you could afford to live ALONE."

1. Sharing a sofa. You may have your own bedroom, a little sanctuary from the madness of the house. But we all enjoy some me-time in the living room to listen to music, read a book or watch TV. So when me-time schedules cross over and the housemates feel like playing video games when all you want is peace and quiet, where do you go!?

2. Sharing a bathroom. Who likes it when people don’t bother to replace an empty toilet roll? Or finding random hairs in the shower that aren’t your own? NO ONE.

3. Sharing a kitchen. This is particularly tricky when you have specific culinary/ dietary preferences and you live with housemates who are too lazy to do their own grocery shopping. Or housemates who don’t cook so they offer to wash up after a lovely meal you just slaved over. This is all fine till you find the dishes still soaking in the sink a week later.

4. Sharing air. What do you do when housemates don’t like to bathe or do laundry as much as you’d like? Or enjoy eating beans or stinky curries and smoke indoors? This is your home. These are your friends. And there is no escape from their stench.

5. Sharing walls. Sometimes, even in sleep there is no escape. As you drift off with the Sandman you get ejected from dreamland by the sounds of your housemate and a significant (or not-so-significant) other. You may consider yourselves to be the closest of friends, but you draw the line at the creaks and squeals of intimacy. That line is a bedroom wall – and they are NEVER thick enough.
