Five Things You Didn't Know About Red Light Riot

Red Light Riot
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne punk rockers Red Light Riot are heading north for a run of dates to promote their latest release, the three-track ‘High Society’.

Rather than get the guys on the phone to talk about their influences, we thought it’d be better for you to learn a little bit more about the band by asking them what they like the most. Here a few of their favourite things.

Drums

Because the rock gods tell me I must play. - Ingrid Martini (drummer)

Denim

It started with cowboys and evolved over time (with a few mistakes along the way — acid wash jeans anyone? I still don’t get the ‘80s and I lived it) to the rock & roll uniform of choice. Double denim. Triple denim. Quadruple denim. The more the fucking better. - Ben Hall (bassist)

‘Fuck Tony Abbott’ t-shirts

Other than worn out ‘90s band t-shirts, it's the only upper body armour you need! Fight the system! - Nina von Johannsohn (guitarist)

The perfect Margarita

I'm forever searching for the best margarita and Mexican grub. LA is winning so far and New York a close second, but Mama Sita in Melbourne is up there too — on the rocks with salt, as if there is any other way. Mexico anybody? - Kristy Kta (vocalist)

Black Sabbath

Hard to choose between them and Zeppelin/ Slayer/ Metallica... but they were the band that first got me rocking – gotta love your parent’s record collection. - Ed Jones (guitarist)

Red Light Riot play The Dolphins Hotel, Tweed Heads, August 15, Chardons Corner Hotel August 16 and The Underdog Pub August 17.
