“Regurgitator have been a favourite band of mine since I was 13 years old,” says Mystery School.
“I was always been impressed and inspired by their ability to work within the system while never conforming to it. Here are five times they subverted the system and won.”

Their second single featured a short, noisy, abrasive, hardcore punk song (just over a minute and a half long) hidden within 18 minutes of noise and feedback. Many copies being returned due to buyers being confused and unhappy with the lack of 'song' on the one-track CD.I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am
Kicking off their debut album with a song titled 'I Sucked A Lot Of Cock To Get Where I Am' (also released as a single in the US and UK) which, in the highly censorship conscious climate of the time, caused quite a stir with conservative politicians. Talk-back radio host Alan Jones calling for it to be banned, and even Triple J’s announcers were urged to not actually mention the song title themselves. The song’s theme sarcastically making fun of their own position and the industry at large.Going Synth-pop
Following their success with a mix of hard rock and rap elements, they chose to do a heavily retro-futurist, synth-pop riddled record, intentionally trying to mess with an increasingly macho male audience.Ditching The Majors
Mutually agreeing to terminate their major label contract with Warner after refusing to play ball with the normal major label policy and strategy. Proceeding independently ever since.Mystery School support Regurgitator at The Zoo 27-28 August.
