Drones drummer and acclaimed solo artist Mike Noga — about to embark on a co-headline tour with Ben Salter — shares his five favourite duos.
1. Derek and Clive
“My mum came into my room and sucked my tiny knob" — pretty offensive start to a song. Imagine how offensive it was in the 1970s. If you've never heard Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’s live studio ramblings, you simply must. Crass, shocking, and absolutely genius. What at first can seems like schoolboy smut is actually two masterful comics displaying their amazing improv skills.2. Maverick and Goose
"I feel the need, the need for speed"— *high five*. I imagine this is what Ben Salter and I will say to each other each night before high fiving and then walking out on stage to a room full of adoring fans. The next morning we will play shirtless volleyball, and at some point on the tour I will die as a result of Ben being rather reckless due to his own insecurities. But that's okay, because Ben will forget about my death REALLY quickly and go on to become really successful and marry Kelly McGillis.3. Laverne and Shirley
Working in a factory putting bottle tops on beer bottles never looked so fun! And when you're not at work you spend your time living in a basement with your best buddy, going tenpin bowling and hop-scotching your way arm in arm down the street wearing bandannas. Ahhhh, friendship.4. Simon and Garfunkel
...and The Everly Brothers, and Sam and Dave, and Kanye and Jay-Z, and Ike and Tina, and Mick and Keith, and The Righteous Brothers, and Sonny and Cher, and Hall and Oates, and Page and Plant, and Lennon and McCartney. The list goes on and on in the music world. But in my mind, Ben and I will always be Loggins and Messina.5. Hollywood and Vine
The most famous intersection in Los Angeles. A city I dream of getting back to. Then there's bacon and eggs, macaroni and cheese, Mork and Mindy, salt and pepper (both the spices and the ‘80s hip hop duo), Bert and Ernie, couch and TV, valium and white wine (especially on a long haul flight), Alison and Simone (my sisters), Terry and Steve (my cats), Me and Myf (my girl).... and now, the newest addition to my list of favourite pairings....
