The opening track of his 2020 album, 'The Speed Of Now Part 1', superstar artist Keith Urban has dropped a frenetic, quick-cut styled video for 'Out The Cage', which features funk master Nile Rodgers and emerging country-trap performer Breland.
Filmed in Sydney (after Urban and Breland had completed a two-week quarantine), the video encapsulates the driving intensity of 'Out The Cage', as well as the 'combustibility of the creative relationship between Breland and Urban'.Due to the pandemic, Nile filmed his parts of the clip in Connecticut – this is the second time Rodgers has collaborated with Urban, having teamed together on 2016 hit 'Sun Don't Let Me Down'.
"The freneticism of the rhythm makes me wanna take off and start running or. . . just break something," Urban says, a multi-platinum, five-time ARIA and Grammy award-winning artist.
"'Out The Cage' began with an idea I had to build upon a '90s English house breakbeat rhythm; I've always loved Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, those kinds of rhythmic energies."
One of four tracks Keith wrote during COVID lockdown in 2020, the lyrical content of 'Out The Cage' explores themes of freedom.
"I really wanted this song to speak to liberation of all sorts, even if that's somebody in a dead-end job, somebody that's stuck in a relationship that's going nowhere and they can't get out, someone imprisoned in their own mind," Keith says.
Keith will return down under for a national, 11-date tour December 2021; he recently announced Birds Of Tokyo will be his special guest for the tour.
