A First Nations musical project in the works for the past couple of years, The Ancient Bloods are a collective of Indigenous creatives intent on exploring identity for both the band and its audience, creating both learning and legacy opportunities in the process.
'ANCSTR' is the first single from the group, featuring the hip hop vocals of emerging artists Loki Liddle, Will Probert and Nadia Morrison."Will, Nadia and I came together to conjure the presence of our ancestors through the track," Loki says.
"We wanted to create a kind of meeting ground between all our mobs – we're really hoping that the track will have the same effect for everyone listening in creating a surreal meeting ground for young people to gathering ancestors."
With backgrounds including the Kabi Kabi, Bundjalung, Wiradjuri, Jabirr Jabirr, Garrwa, Butchulla, Darug, The Ancient Bloods also feature the talents of Michaella Stubbs and Cormac Finn, alongside Loki, Nadia and Will.
The group's debut album (due 6 November) 'Where We Stand' explores a range of stories, truths and musical styles, as well as celebrating song lines and creating new ones while bringing a contemporary response to political issues and cultural heritage.
