Netherlands' Chef'Special have released the fourth studio album 'Unfold'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Dutch indie pop outfit Chef'Special have dropped their new album 'Unfold', a ten-track melting pot of contemporary hip hop, rock and reggae topped with crafted lyricism.

'Unfold' is the fourth album from Chef'Special and the successor to 2017's 'Amigo' album, which gained platinum status in the Netherlands.

The album was produced by guitarist Guido Joseph at the band's home base in Haarlem and centres on themes of self-acceptance, looking ahead and connecting with others.

"During the process of creating this new album we tried to stay as true to ourselves as possible," the band says of the album.

"By also producing this album ourselves we managed to make this a very personal album, both lyrically and musically. We are very proud of the result, and we feel like we managed to challenge ourselves and explore new paths."

Across the album's ten tracks, Chef'Special present irrefutable evidence of their sonic versatility, from gentle ballads through to catchy pop gems and introspective hip hop. Lead single 'Trouble' manages to be all three at once, offering up a tasty earworm that might just live up to its title.

The latest single from 'Unfold' is 'Kaleidoscope', featuring tightly-spun and thought-provoking lyrics carried along on a laid-back neo-soul vibe. Throw some splashes of rock and reggae in the mix, and 'Unfold' comes out looking like another 'Chef'Special classic. Order up.

'Unfold' is available now.
