First Listen: Ricki-Lee’s New Single ‘Point Of No Return’

Ricki-Lee
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Multi-platinum selling artist Ricki-Lee continues her new era – kicked off with the powerful ‘On My Own’ – by releasing her brand-new single ‘Point Of No Return’.

It’s another taste of Ricki-Lee’s forthcoming fifth studio album, this time returning to the dance/pop feels which her fans know and love her for. We’re currently in an era where everything old is new again, an in keeping with this, Ricki-Lee is exploring a new sound, reminiscent off the nostalgic, synth-pop glory days of Daft Punk, Modjo, Jamiroquai and Fatboy Slim.

“It’s not like anything I’ve ever done before which I think is really cool. . . That almost 20 years into a music career you can explore and discover new sounds and go places you haven’t before musically,” Ricki-Lee says.

“Lyrically this is a song about falling in love, but there’s also a second meaning to the chorus for me, which is that I’ve made the call to do things my way and there’s no turning back. There’s a certain adrenaline and excitement that comes with making a big decision and following it through…it’s quite a wild ride!”

The artist is currently putting the finishing touches on her anticipated fifth studio album, written entirely with Aussie pop hitmakers DNA. Ricki-Lee collaborated on ‘Point Of No Return’ with GRAMMY Award-nominated David Schuler (P!nk, John Legend), with whom she wrote her double platinum-selling ‘Raining Diamonds’.

“I really wanted to come with something people weren’t expecting from me,” Ricki-Lee says of ‘Point Of No Return’. “I like to keep people guessing.”

‘Point Of No Return’ is out now.
