Finntroll Live Review

Finntroll

Finntroll - Live at the Evelyn Hotel, Brunswick, Melbourne: Friday 20 June 2014

If you were a passerby at the Evelyn Hotel in Brunswick on Friday night, and peered through the wide glass doors, you would have seen six trolls were putting on one hell of a party and they were having a folking good time of it!

Finnish folk metal maniacs, Finntroll made their way to Melbourne and into the arms of a large group of followers. Most of the front row was occupied by scantily-clad young maidens adoring their medieval heroes — and they were not budging until the show was over, no matter how much the jostling crowd tried to pry them away from their prised positions. Who would have thought that men, dressed as trolls, would attract so many beauties?

Each member of the band theatrically was resplendent in large pointy-troll ears, war paint, strange hillbilly type uniforms and top hats.

The sound quality of the venue was outstanding and the band knew it as the crowd were truly in to it. I’ve never seen so many people smiling while thrashing at the same time. The cheery antics and funny one-liners delivered by lead vocalist Marhia 'Verth' Lillmans kept the night light while at the same time delivering the type of growls that could only be summoned from the underworld.

It was an interesting night… definitely one that the fans will not forget.
