The ‘10s were years of hurtling trends, seeing the alternative pop zeitgeist perpetually itchy to transform.
Lines between mainstream and alternative blurred ever further, from superstar acts such as Lady Gaga requesting (and being denied) collaboration with ground-breakers Death Grips, to Arctic Monkeys jumping ship from the radio-friendly pop of ‘AM’ to the cinematic space-jazz of their modern classic, ‘Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino’.The music industry shifted drastically into streaming domination, with artists forced to carve out new ways of making a living from their craft.
Whatever your take on this baffling era, it was undeniably a curious and exciting time to be alive. And now here we are at the new frontier, a decade at its end faster than we could all say ‘David Bowie’.
