Fat Freddy's Drop Final Music Act To Be Added For WOMADelaide 2019

Last but not least: Fat Freddy's Drop are the final addition to the WOMADelaide 2019 line-up.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The WOMADelaide 2019 line-up is now complete with the addition of final live music act, New Zealand dub masters Fat Freddy's Drop.

From humble beginnings as a ‘jam band’ in Wellington in the late 90s, the award-winning seven-piece Fat Freddy’s Drop is now internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live acts.

Embarking on their first Australian tour since 2016, Fat Freddy's Drop return to WOMADelaide after five long years.

Fat Freddy's Drop join another diverse and colourful selection of musicians and artists from Australia and around the world, including proto-indie rock chick Liz Phair, actress and activist Fatoumata Diawara – one of the biggest names in modern African music – jazz harp pioneer Alina Bzhezhinska, Dutch-New Zealand trio My Baby and desert rock star Tinariwen.

As well as a cavalcade of world-class musical performances, WOMADelaide also hosts a popular workshops programme featuring 16 free workshops exploring everything from Ukranian Cossack dancing with local group Volya, to a vocal masterclass with the central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir.

Award-winning First Nations dancer-choreographer and Marrugeku dancer Amrita Hepi brings her pop-culture dance class 'Power Moves For Perilous Times', where audiences can learn 'power moves' with techniques from Beyonce, Rihanna, John Travolta and Bruce Lee.

Media personality and children's author Peter Helliar will be on-site in the KidZone – WOMADelaide's dream destination for children – reading from his 'Frankie Fish' book series. Meanwhile, local theatre troupe SAYarts bring some of Botanic Park's to 'life' in order to 'talk' to kids.

KidZone also features a chill out book nook presented by Adelaide City Libraries and Penguin Books, a new Kiddo Silent Disco and an newly-expanded nature village among heaps of great activities.

With the line-up finalised and the countdown now beginning in earnest, WOMADelaide in 2019 once again brings a colourful world of arts and music to venues and stages across the city. Click here for full information on all WOMADelaide acts.
