Farewell To Oh Hello!

Oh Hello! is closing after seven years
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

Brisbane nightclub Oh Hello will shut its doors for the last time on 18 August.

Steven Papas, director of the venue, announced the news via social media. He reflected on his – and the venue's – journey over the past seven years.

"My first night out at The Monastery at 18 was the first time I knew I wanted to be involved in the music industry. The only way I was going to do it was to buy The Monastery and turn it into my own. I was determined, and at 25 I closed down a venue that taught me everything and opened a space where people could come together and share the love for music. Today we call that space Oh Hello.

"When we first opened our doors, all I wanted was to experience the music I personally loved. It wasn’t about booking the biggest, it was about supporting artists we respected and providing a platform where they could be free to be themselves.

"Oh Hello has had the pleasure of hosting such names as Skrillex, Flume, Odesza, Kaytranada, What So Not, Marshmello, Skepta, Flosstradmaus, RL GRIME, Alison Wonderland, Rufus, Flight Facilities, Duke Dumont, Nero, Disclosure, Tash Sultana, Golden Features, Boys Noize, Baauer plus over 250 others from around the world and nationally.

"I can’t thank those artists, managers and agents enough for working with us. Some of my most cherished memories are because of some of those performers.

"Owning Oh Hello started off as a dream, and dreams don’t last forever. Everything comes to an end and August 18 will see Oh Hello close it’s doors for good. I say good because I couldn’t be happier knowing after 7 years it’s been the best 7 years of my life.

"If there is one thing I love doing, it’s throwing a party. And if this will be the final goodbye to Oh Hello, then expect us to go out with a bang.

"I thank everyone for the support. From current staff to past. From the DJs to the bands. To the friends and those I never met. You all made Oh Hello what is today and what it will always be remembered as.

"R.I.P. OH HELLO!"

The announcement comes one year and one month after Family Nightclub also shut the doors on a long and often successful run.
