Italian DJ and producer Fabio Neural joins a cast of international players for the third annual instalment of PURE 2018, which is quickly becoming one of Australia's most-loved techno festivals.
Fabio is among a handful of top-tier touring DJs who have been selected by festival curators Carl Cox, Eric Powell and Richie McNeill.
A student of the Microfusa School in Barcelona, Fabio excels in the production of heart-stopping techno that's filled dancefloors around the world.
We catch up with Fabio ahead of PURE 2018 to discuss his plans for the shows and what is coming next for him this year.
2018 so far... what's been happening for you this year?
[Fabio] I have joined Analog Agency for Spain, Portugal and Italy in January. I played at Egg in London few weeks ago. I will perform with Carl [Cox] in Italy at Afrobar in Sicily and in another important club that I cannot reveal yet. I will also take part at Creamfields UK and Medusa Festival in Spain.
How are you feeling ahead of the PURE 2018 Australian shows?
I'm so excited about that. I will share the decks with such important artists, but with Carl above all that he has been my master since I was young. I am so grateful to him for the chance he is giving to me with this tour.
What can audiences expect from your performance?
My best as I always try to do in my set. I will show all my skills, trying to bring people on a trip and sharing with them the energy that music makes me feel.
How would you describe your particular style of live performance?
I love techno, but I like all genres of music. I can play tech-house, deep, housy. I also like to have fun with a capella and snare during the break to make the drop more powerful. But the most important thing for me is seeing people enjoying my music.
What are you looking forward to the most about the trip to Australia?
I don't have nothing in particular. I mean, I'm coming to the other side of the world; all things will be amazing and I want to enjoy my journey the best way I can. First of all, help kick-off the crowd at PURE :D and then see the cities, people, nature and food.
If we were to have a look at what you're currently listening to, which artists would we find?
In the electronic scene Adam Beyer and his Drumcode Records, Loco Dice and all the tech-house scene with Jamie Jones, Solardo or Latmun. I'm also listening to a lot of hip hop like 50 Cent, Eminem, G-Unit. But Depeche Mode are also always in my car stereo.
What keeps you motivated as an artist?
The passion and love I feel for music. Music helped me a lot when I lost my mother years ago and my father last year. For me, it's the reason of life. But also the power of seeing a lot people dancing to your music; I can't find the right words to describe what I feel in that moment.
Can you tell us about any projects you're working on?
I'm working on a lot stuff in the studio as usual with solo projects. I have released my remix for the new label of Carl Cox and Christopher Coe few weeks ago and it is going very well. I also signed my eighth EP on Intec and one EP on Off Recordings. But I also have some collabs I'm working on with Frankyeffe, Konrad, Drumcomplex, DJ Fronter and Hollen.
Is there a message you have for Australian audiences heading to PURE 2018?
Yes. I can't wait to see your energy Australian people, so come motivated. :)
