Brisbane-based R&B artist Mufaro is gearing up to launch a new single, 'Samba', later this month.
“It's a really cool song and a whole different vibe,” Mufaro says. “It's something that people won't be expecting from me once they hear it.”
Originally from Zimbabwe, the musician, who moved to Australia at a young age, has grown up listening to R&B and hip hop icons such as Usher, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Jay Z and Eminem.
The artist shares that 'Samba' came from the ashes of a song he entered in a music competition. “DJ Terry Moyaz and I threw our hats in the ring and we made the song. When we didn't win the competition we were like 'we really need to release this song'.
“Terry got in touch with some other producers and we eventually found a guy over in Zambia who really [liked] the song and wanted to help us out by making us a new beat.
“It's been a real collaboration with him as well, making that new beat for the song which is so close to being finished. We are really cutting it close with the release.”
Mufaro says 'Samba' came together quite spontaneously and that it has given life to a variety of new projects. “'Samba' was definitely a spur of the moment thing.
“It's really weird because I got the instrumental and I was listening to it in the car ride home and then I just started working around with some ideas and melodies, and then came the hook and verses.
“It was written in two hours and then straight after I called my cousin, who is also a sound engineer and producer. I went to his place and we tracked the whole thing. In a matter of six hours the song was written and recorded.
“I'm really happy with how the whole process of making this song has occurred. I guess it kind of reaffirms to me that I'm able to make music so quickly and freely. It's inspired a whole bunch of other projects as well. There's going to be a lot of new music coming after this.”
Mufaro is set to launch the new single at The Bearded Lady in late September alongside Atlas And The Attic and Tyra. He says those attending the launch can expect to dance and sing-along as well as to expect the unexpected.
“I am honestly looking forward to having one, big, massive party with everyone. We have Atlas And The Attic [and] Tyra, who is one of my favourite Brisbane-based singers. It's going to be really cool working with those guys and to be partying with everyone in Brisbane.
“I always try to make my live shows like a party. The exciting thing is this will be my last Brisbane headliner for the year. We're really going to go full-on with this one.”
