The culmination of almost 10 years of hard work, performing over 700 shows and 7 international tours, Australian riff-rock trio Dallas Frasca will release their third studio album, 'Love Army', on 17 April.
To give you a sampling of 'Love Army', the band have supplied an exclusive stream of one of the album's tracks, 'Suzy's On My Mind'.
'Love Army' was written across the globe during five of their international tours over the past two years. The album was produced by New York-based producer, Andy Baldwin (Bjork, St Lucia, Cat Empire), engineered by Richard Stolz at Woodstock Studios in Melbourne and mastered by Joe LaPorta (Sterling Sound, NYC: Foo Fighters, Vampire Weekend, The Killers).
'Suzy's On My Mind' is Dallas Frasca delivering a laser-guided smart bomb on the topic du jour. It’s a double-entendre on the complexities of alcohol and drug abuse. Suzy isn’t your typical gal next door. It’s slang for suicide. “Statistics suggest that most suicides happen on a Tuesday, which is typically the rock bottom of a come-down after a huge weekend,” explains Dallas.
The song carries references to this, with the lyric 'Tuesday’s suicide'. “Alcohol and drug abuse is a cycle of massive highs and extreme lows. Just when you start to feel good again after a few days off, it’s so easy to start it all over again.”
Dallas admits she spent much of her 20s in that cycle. “I’m sure most of us have been there at one point. I’m a pretty self-aware person and my biggest lows in life have been after stupidly big weekends. I understand why it can be the ruin of people, because the flipside is that some of those big weekends were among the best and most mind-altering times I’ve ever enjoyed had in my life. I know that some people sometimes may not make the connection between substance abuse and the come down because it feels so damn good at the time.”
