Emma & The Hungry Truth, led by Brisbane singer-songwriter Emma Dean, will return to the Judith Wright Centre next month to perform two shows for their home crowd.
The band's last performance at the Judy was when they first started as a band. “Since then so much has happened: we’ve recorded an EP, with the amazing ARIA-Award winning producer Paul McKercher, we toured [that EP] around Australia, and Tony and I have just returned from a tour of the US.”
Even with the opportunity to tour the US, Emma says her favourite place to perform is Brisbane. “Who can go past a home crowd? I absolutely love performing in Brisbane and I think that preforming for your friends and family just doesn’t compare.
“I’m so lucky to have so many of those people who have come along on this journey – I can’t go past that actually, so Brisbane I would have to say is my favourite!”
Emma & The Hungry Truth is a six-piece band, but only Emma and her brother Tony made it over to the US to tour. “We didn't take the full band... we compressed the sound into a duo mode, Tony who is a drummer, actually played electric guitar, a couple of drums but he also played the bass with his foot, it was quite a spectacle!”
Emma will also return as a solo act to play the Judy in October for her Women In Voice performance. “I grew up watching Women In Voice… In the early 2000s, I gave myself a goal of five years to get into Women In Voice. On the fifth year I was asked to audition and I got the part!
"It was a total dream come true and that was in 2006. That’s the last time I was in Women In Voice and it's so special to be coming back nine years later!”
Emma & The Hungry Truth play the Judith Wright Centre 21-22 August. Women In Voice takes place, also at the Judith Wright Centre, 15-24 October.
