Get a fresh perspective of Adelaide’s electronic music scene via Electro Live.
Run for the first time last year, Electro Live is a collaboration between radio station Fresh 92.7 and music/ art collectives that showcase the diverse songwriting talent of SA electronic artists.
At the core of Electro Live is a drive to dispel the negative connotations associated with electronic music, says Fresh 92.7 General Manager Troy Sincock. “When people think of electronic music, they think of 3am, in the club and people losing their minds,” Troy says.
“What we’re trying to do is demonstrate that electronic music is much broader than that, in fact it’s the most popular music there is in the world today. What we’re looking to do is present electronic music, but from a singer-songwriter point of view.
“Rather than stripping things down acoustically, it’s taking music that might have some energy to it, stripping it back and making the song the heart of what we’re presenting.”
Staged as part of Umbrella: Winter City Sounds, Electro Live will present a selection of 100 per cent Adelaide electronic artists that both Troy and Fresh 92.7 Assistant Content Director Zane Dean feel represent the current singer-songwriter movement within the genre. “We’re very happy with all of them,” Zane says.
“A couple of them are on-air [talent] at the radio station as well. One of them is Southpaw; she does a show on Sunday nights called ‘Carousel’. Another act is Caroline Tucker who is known as a DJ around Adelaide and known to Fresh listeners as the host of ‘Fresh Air’, our local music programme.
“The third act we’re really excited about is Hartway; they’re super-talented and they put on a hell of a performance.”
To take place at Cinema Place Canopy outside the Fresh studios in the Adelaide CBD, Electro Live also activates a viable performance space outside traditional venues.
“Umbrella is all about showcasing local, live music around the place,” Troy says, “and electronic music absolutely deserves a place when you’re talking about live music and live performances, so we are really looking forward to showing the people what that can look like."
