Spiro Boursine, colourful and controversial founder of Earthcore, has died.
Earlier today an unidentified man died in police custody after being restrained by patrons at Antique Bar in Elsternwick at 2:15 this morning. It is understood the man had been fighting.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said, "Police arrived at the bar, the man was being held down by a number of people. Police arrested the man and placed him in handcuffs when he lost consciousness" she said. "Police attempted to revive the man until Ambulance Victoria arrived and took over. Despite the efforts of emergency service personnel, the man died at the scene."
Boursine’s friend and former Earthcore manager, Gary Neal, confirmed Boursine was the man who died at Antique Bar this morning to The Age newspaper.
Boursine was a leading pioneer of the outdoor dance scene in Australia. The 25th incarnation is scheduled to happen 22nd November in regional Victoria. A message on Earthcore’s Facebook Page read “Watch This Space… “The show must go on”.
Last year Earthcore expanded its at-times successful Victorian event to a national offering with events scheduled in NSW, QLD and WA - an expansion which ultimately failed amid controversies surrounding artists not being paid and withdrawing from the events.
The events were all cancelled except for the Victorian leg. Yellow Sunshine Pty Ltd, controlled by Boursine was wound up following the cancellations.
