Devonian: Ipswich Battle Of The Bands Profile

Devonian
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A Brisbane-based original alternative/ power-metal band, Devonian have become regulars of the SE Queensland scene.

They'll be competing at the 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands this weekend.

Name of band: Devonian.

Style of music you play?
We find it hard to categorise our own music, but if we have to label it we think it lies somewhere in the alternative/ power metal area.

Band highlight so far?
We're relatively new on the scene, but we have been fortunate enough to play on some great mini-fest type gigs such as Rock The Reef, Wizardsfire Medieval Music Festival and Garethstock IV, which have all been highlights for us.

The band's influences?
Everyone in the band draws influences from many genres of music ranging from hard rock, thrash, power metal and even jazz, but we all seem to have a common love of heavy metal music.

Which act/ group would you guys love to support?
Lacuna Coil. Our singer Diletta is Italian so we think it would be a good fit and connection.

What's the biggest misconception about Ipswich?
It's a misconception that the city has nothing to offer. There is a lot of talent in Ipswich from arts to music just waiting to be found.

The band's rider includes what?
Rider? We will be very happy if we get one!

Finish this sentence: In 12 months our band will be…
Having fun writing, recording and touring.

Who would be the ultimate person to be the band's spokesperson?
We would honestly prefer to let our music do the talking.

Given we have a federal election underway, why should people Vote 1 for Devonian?
We don't make promises we can't keep.

Favourite music movie or documentary of all time?
'Global Metal' music documentary.

If you had no budget constraints, what would you add, incorporate into your live show?
Definitely a huge light show and smoke machines, it makes such a difference to the look and energy of a gig.

We spend too much time on this website/ app?
YouTube, in search of great bands.

Can you tell scenestr a joke?
Sure, come and chat to us after a gig for that.

The 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands takes place at the Ipswich City Square Saturday 2 July from 11am until 7pm.
