Delta Goodrem's casually racist comments on last night's episode of The Voice have seen her cop even more abuse than usual via social media today.
When Steve Clisby, a contestant in last night's blind auditions, belted out his rendition of Barry White's 'I Can't Get Enough Of Your Love', Delta didn't swivel her chair. She was full of praise for the crooner, though, calling him "one cool cat" — which, let's face it, she probably wouldn't have said to a white guy, but that's nothing; the sort of harmlessly patronising talk you'd expect to hear at Racist Amateur Hour.
The real racial tension kicked in when this cool cat asked Delta why she didn't turn around, to which Delta replied that Seal would be his best coach because he's "a brother". Clisby and Seal aren't literally brothers, of course — Goodrem meant this in the way that black people mean it, which she thinks is much more meaningful.
The unflappable Seal was flapped. I mean, racism? In Australia? GTFO! "What?" he sputtered. "Oh, because we're both black?"
Delta awkwardly attempted to dig her way out of the hole, and that went about as well as expected, but the damage had been done.
Do you think Delta crossed the line? Do you care?
