English singer-songwriter Declan McKenna will kick off his 2024 down under.
Already slated to play the Brisbane and Adelaide legs of Heaps Good Festival, the 'Brazil', 'British Bombs', and 'The Key To Life On Earth' artist will headline concerts in Sydney and Melbourne. The tour lands right before Declan introduces his newest studio record. "My third album 'What Happened To The Beach?' is out 9 February.
"My favourite third album yet. In my top three albums I've ever made of all time," McKenna deadpans. "For now, expose your ears to my new tune 'Nothing Works' in all the usual places. . . and some of the unusual places."
Produced in California last year with Gianluca Buccellati (Arlo Parks, Lana Del Rey), 'What Happened To The Beach?' finds McKenna trusting his music intuition as his songwriting confidence grows fostering an ability to focus on ambience and space within an individual song.
Lyrically, this records also finds Declan moving away from darker themes like corrupt FIFA officials or the oppressive grip of the right-wing media.
"If every song features a lyrical statement, then it loses some of its impact, too. I haven't let go of that aspect of myself, but I don't want to live out that style forever," he notes.
Sydney and Melbourne tickets on sale from 9am (local time) on 20 October. Tickets to Heaps Good Festival are on sale.
