Dave Knows It's Only Yoch & Roll, But They Like It

Rock out with your yoch out when Dave hit the road for a tour January-February.

Specialising in their own brand of rock music they dub 'yoch and roll', Newcastle alt-rockers Dave prepare to unleash their debut album 'Slob Stories' in 2019.

The 'Slob Stories' full-length follows a steady output of music for Dave in recent years, including the EPs 'YOCH! Bangers Vol. 1' in 2017 and 'Never Yoch Alone' in 2018.

Dave worked with renowned punk-rock producer Steve Albini, who vocalist/ guitarist Noah Church says perfectly complemented what the band wanted to achieve with their first album. “As soon as you hear the album, there's this signature drum sound that you can tell it's an Albini record,” Noah says.

“Every time we've recorded we wanted it to sound like Steve Albini had done it, and so we thought 'f… it, we'll get him to actually do it'. We want to record live, we want to have that energy, we want it to be raw, and we just knew that if he did his thing and we did our thing it would turn out the way we wanted, which it did. We're really stoked with how it turned out.”

Famed producer for albums by bands such as Nirvana, Pixies, Manic Street Preachers and Cheap Trick, Steve Albini is well-known for his ability to get the best out of the artists he works with. “He really doesn't try and insert himself into it too much and put his mark on it, he just really wants to get the best result for the band,” Noah says.

“For four days all he cared about was our album, which was so great because we haven't always had that experience. We just had trust and faith in him that he wanted the best for us.”

With 'Slob Stories' locked, loaded and ready to fire off in the New Year, Dave will be on tour for a string of live shows, starting in January with their 'Yocholiday' tour. “We'll be back in the country and we wanted to get straight out as soon as we could from the trip to The States to play some of the songs and hopefully keep people interested before we start rolling out the music.”

Live dates for Dave in 2019 also include their first time ever playing a nationally-recognised Australian festival when they perform as part of the line-up for The Gum Ball at Dashville (Hunter Valley) in April.

Dave join The Gum Ball as part of the second round announcement that also features Augie March and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, joining first-rounders Tex Perkins & The Fat Rubber Band, Sampa The Great and Magic Dirt.

“We're stoked; as soon as we got the email I was so excited. I was there last year as a punter,” Noah says of their inclusion in The Gum Ball for 2019.

“It's our first real festival that we've been asked to play so we're really looking forward to it, getting to see all the other bands and just be amongst it.”

Dave play The Gum Ball at Dashville (Hunter Valley) 25-28 April.
