No doubt the soundtrack to a million wedding waltzes and the making of just as many babies (that's a conservative guesstimation obvs), not to mention that flamenco guitar riff (you know the one), Savage Garden's 'Truly Madly Deeply' is a certified classic pop banger.
One of the biggest musical acts in the late '90s, with all that attention ('Truly Madly Deeply' has almost 350 millions views on YouTube and nearing 300 million streams on Spotify alone) it's not surprising to hear the corporate world still wants a slice of the action as indicated by the duo's frontman Darren Hayes. He has tweeted today: "If you knew how much money I turn down and how hard I fight to protect your high school memories..." followed by an image with some truly shocking lyrics an advertising company pitched to him for a TV commercial.
"They thought I might like to do a quick re-record using these lyrics."
VERSE 1
I'll bring you Greek, I'll bring you French, I'll bring you Japanese
I'll bring you Thai, Steak from the Pub, bring all the food that you need
Close to your door with every step, I'm outside holding your food
It will be warm, I will be tasty 'cause I'm counting on a real good rating
That's the reason I'm bringing, you Deep Fried Chicken
CHORUS 1
I want to stand with you on food mountain
I want to float with you in some cheese
[insert brand name] Like this forever
Until more fries rain down on me
I'll bring you Greek, I'll bring you French, I'll bring you Japanese
I'll bring you Thai, Steak from the Pub, bring all the food that you need
Close to your door with every step, I'm outside holding your food
It will be warm, I will be tasty 'cause I'm counting on a real good rating
That's the reason I'm bringing, you Deep Fried Chicken
CHORUS 1
I want to stand with you on food mountain
I want to float with you in some cheese
[insert brand name] Like this forever
Until more fries rain down on me
Truly, awfully horribly. Though Frenzal Rhomb member and radio presenter Lindsay McDowens seems intrigued replying to the tweet: "Tell me more about this food mountain though." While comedian James Colley added: "This is why I'll always stand with you on food mountain."
