One of Australia's most recognisable names in music, Daniel Johns will delve into his life with incredibly rare public appearances to promote his new short film, 'What If The Future Never Happened?'.
The first time Johns will grace a stage of any type in five years, Daniel Johns In Conversation will travel to Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne in November.
With the featurette – that was directed by James Medlam – to be screened followed by an hour-long conversation, Johns will explore his early life and creative process, sharing never-before-seen photos, moving archival footage, and unreleased recordings straight from his personal collection.
To remain in the moment each night, these four opportunities to hear from one of Australia's most vivid songwriters will provide a distinct experience for fans with no two nights the same.
"'What If The Future Never Happened?' is equal parts reality and fantasy, and I'm as proud of it as anything I've ever done in my career. The orchestration took time, and the final result was worth it," shares Daniel.
"To celebrate the release of the featurette, I'll be sitting onstage, telling stories, taking the aux chord and sharing tunes that nobody has heard and sharing random ideas that couldn't be realised or released.
"Basically, turning theatres into giant living rooms. . . it would be great if some people showed up but I'm doing it anyway – you're all invited!"
An evening promising a treasure trove of moments for Silverchair diehards as much as fans of Australian music, audiences will be treated to hearing previously unheard demos – from a four-track embryonic 'Neon Ballroom' bedroom demos to the original songwriting session of 'Straight Lines' from Silverchair's final album 'Young Modern'.
Johns will also share ideas for songs he had written that would never make it onto a sixth Silverchair album as well as playing new music from his solo career and collaborative projects.
'What If The Future Never Happened?' is a genre-bending, semi-autobiographical featurette that puts reality and fantasy in a hyper-speed spin cycle.
Shot in 2022, Johns made the executive decision to hold it back while he completed it and to mark the 30th anniversary of 'Frogstomp'. The sci-fi-inspired film is a cinematic portal back to the '90s, a postcard from the past written to the future.
Tickets on sale from 1pm (local time) on 25 September.
