Daft Punk Puts Wee Waa On The Map

Daft Punk are in fact launching 'Random Access' in Wee Waa.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

We assumed it was a joke when The Daily Telegraph and Music Feeds first reported it — just the latest in a long line of bizarre hoaxes surrounding the release of Random Access Memories — but it's been confirmed.

The regional NSW town of Wee Waa will host the global launch of Daft Punk's new album.

The launch will take place at the Wee Waa Show on May 17. Narrabri Shire Mayor Conrad Bolton told the Narabri Courier he thought someone was "pulling his leg" when he got the call from the French duo's Australian record label representative.

"We thought getting Senator Fiona Nash to open the show was a bit of a coup," Wee Waa Show president Brett Dickinson added, "but now our show program has been bolstered 10-fold."

We can't tell whose tongues are in whose cheeks here, and there's still a chance this is a Gallic robot's idea of a practical joke, but we'll be buying our Wee Waa Show tickets with the quickness.

"We're still pinching ourselves. We don't know why, but why not?" Dickinson told triple j. "They just wanted somewhere that was different to what Daft Punk does. They're known for breaking down barriers and being creative and Wee Waa is uniquely Australian so they just said, let's go to Wee Waa. Amazingly our show is on at the same time [as their album release]."

Daft Punk will not be performing live at the event. It's unclear at this stage if they will be in attendance in some capacity.
