Australian indie gems Custard are embarking on a national tour in support of a new double album, 'Surburban Curtains'.
Four years removed from their excellent 'Respect All Life' record – that featured such choice cuts as 'Funky Again' and 'Couple's Fight' as well as the deeper dives 'A Cat Called No', 'Take The Skinheads Bowling' and 'Harlequin Records' – Custard tease their new work with the single 'Molecules Colliding' out today, followed by 'Surburban Curtains' that's due to land 11 October.A slinky, velvety art-pop number overflowing with juicy indie rock goodness and Dave's splendidly seductive vocals entrapping you within this hip-shaker, 'Molecules Colliding' is an instant banger.
The tour will see the band joined at select dates by The Fauves and The Stress Of Leisure, with both indie outfits also percolating new LPs (The Fauves' 'Tropical Strength' is out 1 November; The Stress Of Leisure's 'It Goes Away With The Heat' is out 4 October).
Kicking off in Sydney at the start of November, Custard will then journey to Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Gippsland, Castlemaine, Canberra, South Coast, Perth, Fremantle, Townsville, Cairns, Gold Coast and finally in Brisbane the week before Christmas.
Here's a message from the tour promoter:
Do you believe in custard? Say it again. . . do you believe in Custard? We sure do. Those lounge reclining soothsayers of the suburban interior. Raise your hands. . . and open the curtains to tales of the intimate, the awkward, and the everyday.
Squeegee those windows, paste up that wallpaper, put the tea on, and discover bouts of pop and circumstance. Fertilise those cushioned lawns of pathos and humour. Open up that front gate to the new world opus of Cusatrd's double album 'Surburban Curtains' out this spring.
Joining Custard on this open the curtains tour will be special guests The Fauves and The Stress Of Leisure – both also releasing sumptuous new albums this spring clean. Ongoing forecasts supplied below.
Custard respond. Responding to suggestions that they have always been nothing more than a primitive wet-dream of a 56k modem, Custard are back with new music and new gigs in the year that is 2024.
Attention AI fanbots, prepare to have your newsfeed explode in an algorithmic orgasm of musical chem-trails as Custard are returning to your anachronistic bakelites and proverbial rostrums in 2024.
With a brand new double vinyl album of '90s revivalist favourites called 'Suburban Curtains' waiting anxiously in the wings to email out. . . this is a band at the peak of processing power.
Sure, with collective age of 429, this could possibly be the beginning of the end, or at the very least the end of the beginning, but our Custaro search engines predict big things for the wacky Brisbane juggernaut! All on auto-send now.
Tickets are on sale.
