New heavy metal band, Crispy Danger formed after sneaking backstage at Black Sabbath's final show.
Fresh from releasing their debut single 'Outta Control', the three piece accurately describes it as "heavy metal disco", a catchy blend of rock and metal instrumentals with hip hop rhythms.
The chorus screams the lyrics, 'unstable times, they breed unstable minds,' a commentary on social media, AI and arguments over the internet during what the band describes as the craziest time on the planet.
Crispy Danger formed when brother and sister duo, David Rex (vocals, guitar) and Michelle Maxx (bass) flew over to Birmingham for Black Sabbath's curtain call, Back To The Beginning.
Experiencing this larger than life celebration and the emotion in the crowd was inspirational for the siblings.
The tipping point was when they managed to sneak backstage and meet current and future Hall of Famers like Tom Morello, Mike Patton and Billy Corgan.
"We're chilling out, we're chatting to Jake E. Lee [ex-Ozzy Osbourne guitarist], a few others. He was really cool," Rex recalls.
"We just kind of looked at each other and just said, 'okay, this feels comfortable, this feels good'. We're gonna do it and we really got to do this when we get back. We started recording, seriously writing all of that."
Adds Maxx: "Because it was pretty much before we were casually jamming and just chilling. Then we were like, we've got to get a drummer [Frankie Demuru], we've got to get songs together and do this."
For a debut song, most bands would take a DIY approach and record at home or hire someone from a local studio.
With just their demo in hand Rex thought "hey f... it! Let's just call some top level guys. Just see what happens."
This is how they ended up with Grammy Award-winning mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones) on the single.
"I decided to cold call a bunch of managers for top producers and most of them never responded. . . I called Chris Lord-Alge's manager and I sent him the video that we did. The video looks good, the audio is kind of scrappy [in the demo], but it's a good song.
"He said, 'all right, I'll pass it on to Chris. . . He likes it, he wants to do it!' Which is insane to get a guy like that to do your debut single, right? When no one's ever heard of you. You're like no one."
"What can I say," Maxx adds. "I guess the music writing speaks for itself." "That's a bit arrogant, I didn't say that!" Rex teases as they both laugh and bicker.
Crispy Danger are already working on their second single and after that it's expected to be a steady stream of new music.
"We're about 90 per cent through the next single, which we're also doing with Chris. It's a considerably heavier vibe than ['Outta Control']. You can hear more of what our roots and influences are," Rex explains.
"There's a bunch of songs that we're writing and we're whittling down. We want to release a bunch of singles and then sort of do an album after that, but we want to just sort of trickle it out so that there's just something new every couple of months instead of doing an album, waiting a couple years or a year doing another album."
Although there's no news on live shows it wouldn't be a surprise to hear they've cold-called their way onto the Glastonbury line-up this time next year.
