Compulsory ID Scanners Start From Midnight In Queensland

As of Saturday 1 July, 2017, Queensland's new compulsory ID scanning system for all licensed venues across the entire state begins. This applies to venues that trade past midnight.

It is law for anyone entering a licensed venue after 10pm to produce a current valid form of ID. So drivers licence, an adult proof of age card, current passports or international drivers license etc. You will not be able to use any out of date forms of identification. This is law.

Also note if you leave a licensed venue for a cigarette or to get food and you want to come back in you will need your ID to be scanned again regardless if you have a stamp.

Frank Cotela, founder of Stereosonic and who subseqently sold the franchise, said on social media, "there are things I don't agree with these ID scanners... but As venues are easy targets and media opportunities for authorities, I can see why they are adopting them ... I still think data protection, disputes, regulations need to be improved."

Fluffy promoter, Harray Katsenavas said many people would have no idea the scanners were being introduced from the 1st July because, "this Government has no clue how to communicate with people".
