As long-time triple j presenter Veronica Milsom bids a teary farewell to listeners at the end of the month, comedian and one-time Australian Senate hopeful Michael Hing prepares to fill her shows, er shoes.
Michael brings to the show a sense of humour (he's a comedian), political credibility (he ran for the NSW senate) and weirdly enough, glamour (he was nominated for Cleo Bachelor Of The Year), making him a triple-threat worthy of Lewis'. . . whatever it is Lewis brings to the table.
“I'm really excited to be hosting triple j Drive with Veronica," Michael says.
"She's a close friend, a great comedian and someone I've always looked up to. . . wait, Veronica's the one leaving? So I'm hosting with Lewis? Okay, I guess that's fine."
Veronica has been a staple of the Js since her first appearance on mid-dawns in 2011, followed by stints on 'Weekend Brekkie' and 'Weekend Arvos'. Since 2015, she's been in the chair for 'Drive' where she, along with co-host Lewis Hobba, has been giving listeners the giggles since 2015.
“I’ll really miss triple j, but I’m excited about the advertising opportunities once I leave," Veronica says.
"Sometimes I wonder if collaborating with a major sporting brand will feel disgusting and shameless, but my gut says 'Just Do It'.”
She adds: "The impact Lewis has had on me will be everlasting. Literally, his name is tattooed on me. I’ll never forget him, even if I wanted to.”
Meeting in high school, few people have spent more time in close proximity to Veronica than Lewis, who says of his soon-to-be former co-host: "Veronica has a beautiful, weird brain and it’s been a joy to watch Australia fall in love with the way she looks at the world," Lewis beams.
"I could go on forever but Veronica gets 'very' uncomfortable around heartfelt farewells, which is why I hope everyone says something nice to her before she goes. She’ll absolutely hate it.”
