Cold Chisel Australia 2024 Tour

Cold Chisel
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.
Update - 12 June, 2024: After selling out their previous dates, Cold Chisel have added six more concerts to their 2024 tour; scroll down for the details.

"Unfortunately we can't do gigs everywhere, so we've tried to get to the places where the outcry was loudest. That's why we've added new shows in Canberra and the Hunter Valley, as well as additional gigs in Brisbane and Sydney plus two more in Melbourne," Chisel guitarist/ vocalist Ian Moss says. "The reaction of our fans has really fired us up – we can't wait to play for everyone."

Update - 4 June, 2024: Over 150,000 tickets have been snapped up for 'The Big Five-0 Tour' – the 16 concerts have sold out completely. Limited tickets remain for their appearance at VAILO Adelaide 500 Post Race Concert.

"We've been completely blown away by the public response today," Cold Chisel frontman, Jimmy Barnes says. "We know a lot of people missed out and will be feeling disappointed, but the demand has been bigger than we've ever seen for any of our other tours.

"We're now scrambling to try and add a few more gigs in late November so hopefully we'll have some more news about that in the coming week."

One of Australia's legacy bands, Cold Chisel is turning the Big Five-O and they're celebrating their golden anniversary with a national tour.

Set to kick-off in Armidale, where the band based themselves in 1974-75 as Don Walker finished his university commitments, in early October, the tour will then visit Gold Coast, Sydney, Wollongong, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Newcastle, Ballarat and Hobart, before finishing up in the band's home town of Adelaide headlining the VAILO Adelaide 500 post-race concert.

Fans can expect Cold Chisel to perform all the classics – like 'Khe Sanh', 'Bow River', 'Flame Trees', 'You Got Nothin' I Want', 'When The War Is Over', 'My Baby', 'Cheap Wine', 'All For You', 'Choir Girl', 'Last Wave Of Summer', 'Saturday Night', 'Breakfast At Sweethearts', 'Forever Now' and so many more – in the ultimate celebration of one of Australia's finest catalogues of music.

"We'll be going all out to celebrate a milestone birthday like this," chief songwriter Don Walker explains.

"Bookending the tour in the two places where we first welded the band together, building these circus tent shows in three cities, bringing along some great guests and doing a set which reaches back across our whole song catalogue should all make 'The Big Five-0' a tour to remember."

The three circus tent shows Walker refers to will see Cold Chisel reenact a chapter of their own history – An Evening with the Circus Animals' shows in 1982 – with Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne audiences to be housed in a specially constructed, 10,000 capacity Big Top tent featuring floor and bleacher seating plus a GA standing area across the rear half of the venue.

The tour also lands in the aftermath of vocalist Jimmy Barnes surviving emergency open heart surgery last December. "The Big Five-0 is a landmark moment," says the country's most famous singer.

"There have been plenty of times where I never thought I'd live to see this day, so I'm going to make the most of it. I can't wait to celebrate with my mates and with all the fans who have been such a big part of our story. We're gonna smash it!"

Cold Chisel will also release a special best of 25-song compilation titled '50 Years - The Best Of' (pre-order it) on 23 August in CD and vinyl format. "We wanted to celebrate our 50th birthday by revisiting all of our best work from across the years," guitarist and singer, Ian Moss says.

"As we prepare the set list, there are a minimum of 15 songs that our audience demands to hear. This time we'll be playing all of them plus we'll be throwing in lots of musical surprises as well."
