Melbourne punk indie rockers CIVIC, fresh from the news they'll showcase at SXSW 2023 (their first US shows ever), will embark on a national run of shows this autumn.
The Melbourne five-piece are also nearing the release of their newest album, 'Taken By Force', dropping another single 'Blood Rushes'. The song is lush and sprawling with pummelling drums and crystalline guitars magnifying the moody longing of Jim McCullough's vocal work."My verses are about new love and trying to protect that in a violent world, like trying to keep a candle alight in a cyclone," McCullough says.
Adds guitarist, Lewis Hodgson: "It's about wanting to have your own world away from everything, wanting that feeling to last a little bit longer before it all comes crashing down."
The band have again collaborated with James Gorter, who directs the music video for 'Blood Rushes'.
CIVIC opted to record 'Taken By Force' over one week in the Castlemaine countryside with Rob Younger from seminal Australian punk band Radio Birdman producing.
'Taken By Force' opens with an ominous intro – the sound of sirens. "One night we all woke up to these emergency sirens going off, so I ran out into the paddock and recorded it on my phone," shares McCullough.
"We had Lewis and Blach set up two snares across from one another and pound out a marching drumbeat at about two in the morning – the whole thing was so intense and creepy, and incredible."
'Taken By Force' is released 10 February. Pre-order it.
Tour tickets are on sale.
