Brisbane Festival 2019 came to a close on Saturday night (28 September) with City And Colour gracing The Riverstage for his only Australian show ahead of his much-anticipated album release.

Asha Jefferies kicked the afternoon off before Didirri took the stage. It was a warm and sunny afternoon - perfect for day drinking – as we settled in for a magical evening under the stars topped off with the annual Sunsuper Riverfire.

Odette warmed things up as the grassy hill started to fill with punters in anticipation for what the night would bring.

Sydney four-piece, The Jezabels, got people onto their feet as they played through a number of hits including ‘Mace Spray’, ‘Pleasure Drive’, ‘Endless Summer’ and more.

Then it was time for the fire works! The Riverstage was a great vantage point for 2019’s Sunsuper Riverfire with an almost 360-degree view. The display really stopped everyone in his or her tracks (except to take out their smartphones).

Dallas Green finally made his long-awaited appearance to the stage donning a tiger-print party shirt with a horse’s head displayed on the screen behind him.

Patrons flocked to the front of the amphitheatre as he kicked the set off strong ensuring everyone came equipped with dancing shoes for tracks like ’Woman’ and ‘Wasted Love’.

For any City And Colour fan, I don’t need to tell you about the wonder of Dallas Green’s voice, but it really was a spectacle to witness it in real life as he effortlessly bounced from note to note within each melody.

Although gifted with an extremely high range, Dallas managed to exhibit a chilling amount of power guaranteed to inflict goosebumps upon even the most cynical of music lovers.

About a third of the way through the set, Dallas paused to take a moment for a friend who had recently passed away. This was certainly touching as he was lost for words; it also marked the moment the set transitioned into a slower pace and welcomed more acoustic tracks like ‘Little Hell’.

The set peaked, however, when crowd-favourite, sing-along ‘The Girl’ was performed.

It could be said Brisbane's CBD was bathed in colour in more ways than one on Saturday night as glitter poured from the sky and the sound of City And Colour oozed from The Riverstage to mark the end of the colourful, cultural celebration that was 2019 Brisbane Festival.
