Tune into to Triple M's Chris Beckhouse when he lends his time and industry experience to all who gather at Australian Music Week (AMW) in Sydney early next month.
A morning show presenter on Triple M, Chris brings to AMW his incredible passion for Australian music and will enlighten audiences on the role radio still plays in getting new music heard.
Ahead of AMW, we steal Chris for a quick chat about himself, Aussie music and what's on at the conference.
Tell us about yourself and what you do?
I do mornings on Triple M; and I have a passion not just for music, but Australian music. My show Triple M Aussie airs Sunday nights nationally and it’s a great way to support the music I love. I am also a ‘rookie’ rock photographer, often going to three or four gigs a week. It’s a lot of fun.
What will you be presenting as a speaker at AMW?
I’ll be sitting on the radio panel discussing where things are at among fellow industry panellists.
Similarly, what do you hope to take away from AMW to enhance your own career?
It will be a brilliant week to mix with people who share the same passions in music. I wish I could do more to contribute and champion some great bands, but I know as a group we can achieve something.
In your opinion, how strongly are Australian independent musicians/ labels competing on the global stage?
It’s been a brilliant year for Aussie music. We can be so proud of the achievements of Gang Of Youths, Amy Shark, Teskey Brothers, Thelma Plum etc. etc. etc.
Within your own field of expertise in the music industry, what issues and challenges are you currently facing?
Fewer risks are being taken.
Your favourite band/ artist at the moment?
Bad//Dreems. You can’t get more Aussie sounding than that band. Can I throw in Polish Club too?
An emerging or unsigned act you think people should be listening to?
Heaps Good Friends.
