One of Australia's greatest films, 'Chopper' will receive the live cinematic-musical touch from renowned arts collective Hear My Eyes when Mick Harvey and supergroup Springtime join forces to live score the film in Melbourne and Sydney.
Akin to a live concert experience in a cinema setting that pushes the boundaries of standard film and sound conventions, 'Chopper Reimagined' is the latest project from Hear My Eyes who have been staging similar events (including 'Girlhood' x Sampa the Great; 'No Country For Old Men' x Tropical F... Storm) for the past eight years. The pairing of Harvey (The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave) and Springtime – which is Gareth Liddiard (Tropical F... Storm/ The Drones), Jim White (Dirty Three) and Chris Abrahams (The Necks) – will reimagine the original score of Andrew Dominik's classic crime drama to create a new sensory realm that creates an audiovisual crescendo.
"It will be amazing to have the opportunity to revisit the music for 'Chopper', 22 years on and to work with such brilliant musicians and friends as the guys from Springtime to concoct something different," Harvey says.
Adds Dominik: "I'm excited to see how the musicians react to the film – it's being given over to them, they'll have their way with it for a few nights and you'll have to be there if you want to experience it.
"It's ephemeral and it's communal, and it'll be exciting for me because it won't be mine anymore – it'll be the film through their eyes."
'Chopper Reimagined' will take place in Melbourne and Sydney in August; there are plans to host the show in Perth and Brisbane in 2023.
Melbourne and Sydney tickets are on sale.
