After a phenomenal amount of support from their fans, Chaos Divine is back.
The five-piece, metal band's – from Perth – last album was released in 2011. Since then Chaos Divine have been working hard, building their live reputation. Now they're back with a new album, 'Colliding Skies', which the band released earlier this month. “We're really stoked with it. It's definitely a step up from what we've been doing, so we're really happy with it,” guitarist Ryan Felton says.
Although it's been a long time coming, Chaos Divine know they owe the success of this album to their fans. Late last year, the band started a crowdfunding campaign in which they asked their fans to pledge money towards their next album.
Hesitant about the amount of money they had asked for, they weren't entirely confident they'd be able to reach their target of $15,000 – they did with a week to spare. “That really helped to get people on board with what we were doing, and get them a bit more excited,” Ryan says. “It's also made people a little more interested in the record now that they've invested money into it.”
Chaos Divine are in the middle of a run of national shows (Perth and Melbourne last weekend, Sydney and Brisbane this weekend). With the experience of playing at Soundwave Perth last year, they're looking forward to stepping up their game. “Obviously, we've got a bunch of new material planned for our set which we're really keen to see what the fans think of it. We will play a bit of our old stuff too, but we want to play pretty much the whole new album."
'Colliding Skies' opens with ‘Landmines’, which, according to Ryan is a great representation of the album. “I think it's a really great representation of all the themes and the sounds that's on the album in one song."
