Rocking Horse Records is celebrating 40 years as Brisbane's premier, independent, music retailer with a massive party.
Store owner Warwick Vere first opened the doors to Rocking Horse Records as an 'import record shop' in Rowes Arcade in 1975. The shop was then on Adelaide St for 25 years, survived through the National Party/ Joh years and won a famous 'obscenity' trial in 1989.
It gradually outgrew these digs and settled into its present location on the Mall in Albert Street, where it is currently enjoying the booming vinyl renaissance.
Many artists and musicians have done a stint being employed behind the counters over the last 40 years, and many more independent bands have sold their music through the store.
A multi ARIA Award winner (Best Record Store 2005-2009, 2011/ Outstanding Physical Retail 2014), Rocking Horse Records has become a much-loved and enduring focal point for the Brisbane music scene.
Coming together to celebrate this milestone are: Blank Realm, The Cairos, ISIS ('90s queer folksters) Rob Hirst & Sean Sennett and Ron S Peno & Brett Myers (Died Pretty)... with more to be announced.
The Triffid hosts the Rocking Horse Records 40th Anniversary Party 1 November; a free component of the day starts from 2pm in the beer garden with acoustic sets from Kristy Apps & The Shotgun Shirleys and The Floyd Family Breakdown. The doors for the ticketed, main event open from 5.30pm.
