Cat Power and Mick Turner will perform at Sydney Festival this January.
They join Kurt Vile and Edwyn Collins as some of the international musicians confirmed for the month-long event. Established in 1977, Sydney Festival is one of the country's largest cultural celebrations and takes place at venues across the city every year.
Cat Power's appearance comes after a string of successful Australian shows earlier this year as well as her 2012 studio album, 'Sun'. She plays two dates in the Circus Ronaldo Tent during the festival. Mick Turner also takes to the Circus Ronaldo Tent for his performance.The Dirty Three guitarist's gig showcases his new album, 'Don't Tell The Driver' and features a full backing band and guest vocalists.
Alongside their solo performances, the pair join Vile and Collins, as well as Ken Stringfellow, Mitch Easter and R.E.M.'s Mike Mills for a special performance of Big Star's third album, 'Sister Lovers'.
Considered a cult classic, the Memphis band's 1978 album is cited as an influence by a multitude of musicians including Belle & Sebastian and The Flaming Lips.
Big Star drummer Jody Stephens also takes part in the performance and is joined by a 12-piece string and brass ensemble featuring local musicians.
Sydney Festival takes place at various venues and runs from Thursday January 9 to Sunday January 26.
