Buskers By The Lake Celebrate 10th Anniversary In 2023 With 200+ Performers

Buskers By The Lake takes place at Lake Kawana Foreshore 18-20 August.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Sunshine Coast event Buskers By The Lake.

Set to return 18-20 August featuring 200-plus performers sprawled through the Lake Kawana foreshore, organisers promise the 2023 event will be bold, spontaneous and daring as well as 'infused with a distinct Gypsyland flair'.

A string of Australian acts have already been signed to the bill, including old-time Appalachian folk outfit Hillbilly Goats, Byron Bay blues artist Dan Hannaford, Melbourne electro-pop artist Tanya George, energetic hip hop, funk band The Wayward Suns, your new pop-rock cure Perry Street Park, and street entertainer and variety artist Lisa Lottie.

Sabrina De Mitri, an accomplished saxophonist and radio personality, will also be flying in from Italy to perform, after taking out the Roma Buskers Festival partnership prize.

Not just restricted to music buskers, Buskers By The Lake also welcome a vast array of performers – from circus stunts, comedy, magic, fireworks and much, much more.

Inspired to create what would become Buskers By The Lake after being enchanted watching four blind men busking during a trip to Thailand in 2013, event director and founder, Cindy Jensen says the 'Gypsyland' theme is a representation of the journey since its inception.

"It's been a long, sometimes difficult road to get here and no matter the pot holes, detours or near-miss accidents that have presented themselves along the way, we refused to give up," Ms Jensen says.

"Never lose sight of your dreams, don't let anything stand in your way and keep believing. If you can dream it, you can do it!"

Other highlights of the 2023 line-up include Damien, Darcy Kate, Daylight Ghosts, Emma Tomlinson, Hannah May, Jackson Dunn, Maja, Tanya George, Tayiha and The Fins.

The Battle Of The Buskers kicks off the Buskers By The Lake 2023 programme (18 November) at Kings Beach Tavern, while the Gypsyland Side Show will also be held at same venue (19 August).
