Emerging wunderkind, Budjerah has dropped a new single, the smooth, sophisticated R&B pop of 'What Should I Do?' that prefaces his second EP titled 'Conversations' (due 8 April).
Budjerah will also embark on world tour visiting Ireland, England, Germany, Netherlands, France and United States, but not before his own headline run of shows in April as well as a stack of festival appearances. He'll also tour Australia with Vance Joy at the end of the year."The lyrics for 'What Should I Do?' came really easily," Budjerah says, who worked with producer Konstantin Kersting on 'What Should I Do?'.
"The inspiration came a few weeks earlier – I noticed that my friends weren't really texting me or calling me; they had sort of pushed me to the side.
"I was sad because I didn't have any friends, and didn't know what to do. But now it's over: I got some new friends."
Alongside Kersting, Budjerah reunited with longtime collaborators Matt Corby and Chris Collins as well as another emerging star MAY-A to create the 'Conversations' EP that features six tracks including the previously released 'Talk' and 'Wash My Sorrows Away'.
"These songs speak about the last year – about me figuring out what's important," Budjerah says.
For the 'What Should I Do?' music video, Budjerah teamed with Mick Soiza (who directed Budjerah's ARIA-nominated video 'Higher') filming in the Byron Bay hinterland.
"Apart from the track being a soulful, undercover dance-floor banger, I feel this song captures a lot of the social anxiety and disconnection so many people feel but are too afraid or embarrassed to voice," Mick says.
"His ability to articulate how he was feeling in a genuinely exposed way and to back himself by not wanting to cave to peer pressure as a young man is well beyond his years.
"The aim was to tap into this and create something quite literal to the meaning of the song and dive into how confident Budjerah was in his vulnerability in this song."
'Conversations' EP is due 8 April, 2022. Pre-order it.
