Sunshine Coast rockers Buck Dean And The Green Lips built plenty of momentum in 2017 with support slots alongside fellow Queenslanders The Vanns and Sydney group Creo.
A couple of smashing sets at local festivals The Big Pineapple Music Festival and Caloundra Music Festival earned them plenty of new fans.
While their newest single 'Hard Times' is from an EP of the same title that's due out in the early part of 2018. Now the lads are heading west for the first time ever.
“Mrs Clause made an appearance [at our Christmas Eve show]. I hope she wasn't driving the slay 'cause she was rockin' pretty hard.”
The past two years for the band since you first emerged on the Sunshine Coast; how has the band progressed in that time (both with sound/ style and the live show)?
[Brent Daniels, drummer] Sound-wise we haven't changed to much; we're still a rock a band.
As for style that seems to change the more we play, which keeps it interesting. The live show is still a balls-out rock show.
On stage, are you a lot more comfortable than the early days of the band?
Definitely. We don't seem to rely on alcohol as much.
Funniest/ strangest moment you've had on stage so far?
Being surrounded by futuristic dancers/ models at The Big Pineapple Music Festival (Sunshine Coast).
You're headed west for live dates in WA later this month to start the 'Hard Times' tour; is this the first time the band have headed that far west for shows?
Yeah by far. Byron Bay is the furthest we have ventured. We are super pumped to be heading west; we've heard nothing but good things.
How did these shows come about?
Through our booking agent Tunja from Music On Maple. At our first meeting she asked us where we wanted to go; we all said WA and here we go.
We also have to give a massive shout-out to Matt at Mad Hatter Productions. Matt has gone above and beyond to help us pull this WA tour together and we really can’t thank him enough.
What can locals expect from the band on this run of shows?
A rock show.
The tour is to support the upcoming release of the group's third EP, 'Hard Times'. How do the new tunes represent the band?
They're rock songs, which is what we're about and the songs are getting better the more we play.
And when can we expect an album from you lads?
It's not something we talk about really; we're just trying to build a fan base around our live shows.
How was your Christmas Eve show in Brisbane? Did Santa make an appearance?
Yeah, really good. Mrs Clause made an appearance. I hope she wasn't driving the slay 'cause she was rockin' pretty hard.
2017 saw the band play local festivals The Big Pineapple Music Festival and Caloundra Music Festival… what are some of the goals of the band as we head into 2018?
To take our music to as many punters as possible starting off with you guys in WA.
Any new year's resolutions from the band you want to share with scenestr?
Party harder!
