Last month, country music husband-and-wife Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont release their first album of original music together.
“We've always written at home over the past eight years,” Brooke says.
“Music has always been a common bond for Adam and I and it's what brought us together, but as far as working on a project together this is definitely the first time.”
Brooke and Adam both command their own, separate careers as country musicians, Brooke as part of trio The McClymonts and Adam as leader of The Adam Eckersley Band.
“We're booking short tours so we don't get sick of each other.”
Their new album, 'Adam & Brooke', is unchartered territory for the couple. “We were surprised by how awesome it actually went,” Brooke says.
“We kept the bar pretty low, thinking 'are we going to clash with our own opinions on things?' But you know what, we were pretty surprised and we worked together really well.
“We didn't butt heads as much as I thought we would, which was fabulous. Adam and I really got to enjoy the experience… [I was] watching him do what he does best, and he allowed me to do what I do best and we really complemented one another.”
The project came about after Adam and Brooke embarked on a short run of acoustic shows last June and July, which inspired them to work more closely with one another to record an album.
Lead single 'Train Wreck' is a song that Brooke says is representative of the complex working and personal relationship she and Adam share. “Adam and I live pretty hectic lives and at the beginning of our relationship, we were always away from each other,” she explains.
“So he wrote this song in the vein of if [our relationship] does end it's been an awesome ride and there are no regrets. We're pretty light-hearted people overall and it was our way of saying that if our love ends up like a train wreck, it's been a great time and we've enjoyed it.
“We're not hoping it does end,” she laughs, “we thought for the first single off the mark, off the cab rank, I thought it was really country and we both sing on the song; Adam gets to showcase how awesome he is at guitar and we thought it was such a great representation of who we are as people too.”
To support the album release, Adam and Brooke will be on tour until the middle of the year. “We're booking short tours so we don't get sick of each other.
"But as far as playing music with each other we're really looking forward to getting out there and letting everyone hear the new album and hear the songs we've written,” Brooke says.
“I have so much respect for Adam as a musician – he's a great songwriter, great guitar player, great vocalist – I really do still look at him in awe when I'm onstage.
"I love that every night I'm surprised; I'm so lucky and he's so awesome. It's a real honour… we really enjoy what we do.”
