BROODS Are Just Peachy

New Zealand’s dynamic duo BROODS, made up of siblings Georgia and Caleb Nott, have burst back onto the global scene with the release of a brand-new single, 'Peach', off their to-be-released third studio album.

The album will be dropping early 2019 and Georgia is confident it will live up to expectations. “I don’t know whether other people will think it’s as different as we think, but we definitely feel like it’s a different direction,” she says.

“It’s more ‘band-y’ if that makes sense, a lot more live instruments and less programmed instruments.”

The pair have been charming audiences the world over since 2014’s 'Evergreen', which they recorded aged just 18 and 20 respectively. 2016 saw the release of sophomore record 'Conscious', which firmly established their place near the top of the electro-pop food chain, as well as a tour with Ellie Goulding.

Georgia, a long-time Ellie Goulding fan herself, says the whole experience left her “buzzy”.

“I feel like every time we reach a new level or we’ve played to a bigger crowd or we’ve released another song or coming up to this next album, we have to sit back and think ‘holy sh.t, remember when we were kids and just wanted to be in a band together? And now look, we’re actually doing it!’” she jokes.

“I think it’s very humbling and we both make sure that we are never ever taking it for granted.”

Both Georgia and Caleb also debuted new projects earlier this year, with Georgia working on all-female collab The Venus Project and Caleb branching out on his own as Fizzy Milk. “We kind of felt like we needed to have a different creative outlet each, something to help us get something out of our systems,” Georgia says.

“We got to write a different type of music than we were writing at the time, and it was really awesome. I feel like it has totally freshened us up for the new BROODS record.”

Keeping up the momentum from their solo projects, Georgia says being back in the studio with her brother has been better than ever. “We have been writing together for so long that it has become so natural for us to be in the studio together that when we’re not it’s kind of weird,” she says.

Putting together the album, the siblings decided to have some fun playing around with new lyrics and sounds. “We were kind of laughing when we were making it.

“But I think that was the thing – we wanted to have fun writing this album, we didn’t want to filter ourselves too much or think ‘ooh this is too much’ or ‘ooh this is too weird’ or ‘ooh this is not going to be what people want to hear’.

“The whole time we were writing it was just like ‘you know what? We are just going to do whatever we want and hope that people will see it the way that we see it, and love it as much as we love it.”

The siblings will finish off the album during the remainder of 2018, with hopes for an early 2019 release. “We’re just focussing on finishing up this album,” Georgia says.

“Our next move when it comes to life – to be honest a lot of it is still in the woodwork of planning and stuff. So even if I did know, I probably wouldn’t be able to tell you!”

'Peach' is available now.
