Back for its fourth annual instalment, Brisbane Winter Sessions returns to ignite the city's coldest month of the year with a programme of live music featuring established bands as well as plenty of emerging acts and indie talent.
With an ethos to 'support local artists, live music, and associated businesses while encouraging the next generation of music makers', Brisbane Winter Sessions is the brainchild of organiser, producer, and ARIA Award-winning artist Tyrone Noonan. To take place across two weeks (14-27 July), Brisbane Winter Sessions will rug up across 11 local venues with more than 30 artists on the programme with a mix of ticketed and free events.
Tyrone firmly believes in the "transformational power of the arts to bring people together and help us realise our commonality". The festival also aims to solidify Brisbane's reputation as a cultural powerhouse, looking towards the 2032 Olympics.
"Gathering through music is so important for the soul, for community spirit and connection," Noonan says.
British brutal, death-metal heavyweights Ingested will headline A Cold Day In Brisbane, a metal, punk, and hardcore mini festival that will also feature SHACKLΣS, Gutless, Algor Mortis, I Exist and others.
"We're bringing the brutality back to Aussie shores for our first-ever headlining run down under. Expect new material, classic slams, and pure carnage every night," declares Ingested.
Australian indie folk-punk gems The Smith Street Band bring their national tour to Brisbane Winter Sounds, promoting their new single 'This Is It'. "Huge thanks to everyone who has already listened to 'This Is It' and for all the great comments about it!
"Australia, we're going on tour in July! We're bringing our friends Bad Neighbour, who you might have seen us play with before if you live in Queensland!"
Local music lovers can also expect to hear blues and jazz sounds of Shade Hadie, the dark electronic post-punk of Sarah Stockholm, the jazz/ Latin/ soul fusion of Palimpsest featuring Tyrone Noonan, to the traditional Mexican mariachi of The Mad Mariachi and jazz from the James Sandon and Steve Newcomb Quartet.
This expansion in genres for 2025 also includes the incorporation of classical and global music, alongside rock, pop, electronic, folk, cabaret, metal, and jazz.
"We are very proud to deliver our fourth festival and super happy to share that the festival programming is mainly Aussie, almost entirely local and with many free events," Brisbane Winter Sessions says.
"It's never been more important to support live music and live music venues. Brisbane Winter Sessions festival is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council. We are so grateful for their support of live music.
"We want everyone to have a good time. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind nor anti-social/ aggressive behaviour. Here at Brisbane Winter Sessions Festival, we want everyone to have the best time possible.
"Be kind, look after each each other and most of all soak up the big-hearted groove of this truly special live music festival in Brisbane starring some amazing local musicians."
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says Winter Sessions will add to the city's growing calendar of cultural events while strengthening Brisbane's thriving music scene. "Brisbane Winter Sessions continue to grow each year, showcasing our city's incredible musical talent and injecting fresh energy into our local venues and entertainment precincts," Cr Schrinner says.
"Festivals like this help cement our reputation as Australia's lifestyle capital and create more to see and do for locals and visitors. We're proud to support an event that not only brings people together but also celebrates Brisbane's creative spirit."
Councillor Vicki Howard also believes the event is yet another reason to visit Brisbane's heart of entertainment, Fortitude Valley. "We're proud to welcome this celebration of live music, which brings real benefits to our local economy by driving foot traffic to the incredible small businesses, bars, and venues that make our precincts so unique.
"With a vibrant mix of free and ticketed events, Brisbane Winter Sessions makes live music more accessible to all while supporting our talented local artists and the businesses that help our community thrive."
