Just weeks away from the launch of new Brisbane live music venue The Fortitude Music Hall, the space (located in the Brunswick St Mall) will also house the 300-capacity multipurpose venue The Outpost.
Harking back to Brisbane’s golden age of ‘70s punk music when The Outpost was at the epicentre of the city’s thriving underground scene, the new incarnation will celebrate all the integral elements of a classic dive bar but with a modern twist: intimate performances, sweaty rock shows, strong whiskey, sweet rum, and freewheeling fun.
With plans to create an atmosphere to foster the next wave of emerging artistic talent, The Outpost will launch 1 August with locals Major Leagues joined by FNQ artist Greta Stanley.
Other upcoming shows in August include Osaka Punch, Sweater Curse and Sampology.
Venue director John Collins remembers the original Outpost fondly. "My first ever gig was at The Outpost. I was 16 and was hyper-aware to a new world opening up to me.
"However, this Outpost is no dive Bar. The team have created a stunning space that equally accommodates afterwork cocktails, pre-dinner drinks, and will nurture artists, offering them a springboard onto the Fortitude stage in tours to come.
"We hope it will have the same impact on patrons as its namesake had on me."
