The Triffid, Brisbane’s new live music venue, will open its doors at the end of October.
Located in one of Newstead’s historic WWII hangers, The Triffid offers a medium-sized concert space with an 800 capacity.
Developed primarily by musician John Collins (ex-Powderfinger) in partnership with leading music industry figures Paul Piticco and Jessica Ducrou (Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Secret Sounds Touring), and Brisbane hospitality identity Brett McCall, The Triffid has been 18 months in development. “I spent 25 years touring with Powderfinger, playing all manner of venues,” Collins says.
“So it was really important to me to build a venue that was not only somewhere that punters looked forward to going to, but a space that bands enjoy playing at as well. I know the importance of having a room that sounds good, and that has been a major focus.”
With its arched roofline and 490 square metre outdoor-beer garden, The Triffid will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, playing host to a mix of national and international touring acts alongside Brisbane’s finest.
And that’s who will hit the stage first! From 30th October, The Triffid will test the waters with Triffid Seeds, a three-night showcase of Brisbane’s wealth of emerging acts. See Hello Hokkaido, Outliers, Avaberée, The Royales, Tundra and Salvadarlings christen the Triffid stage. Best part? Free entry!
On 8th November, The Triffid will officially kick into action with a launch party featuring electrifying Melbourne nine-piece Saskwatch, Brisbane indie-favourites The Creases and Byron Bay locals Mt Warning.

Kicking off on 9th November, Triffid Roots will take over the beer garden each Sunday, curated and hosted by Triple J’s Sarah Howells. The first edition of Triffid Roots will feature Pat Tierney and Liam Gerner.
